Family and Friends

  • What to Do
    • Encourage them to eat with you
    • Approach them in a non-accusatory way about their eating habits
    • Make them meals so it is harder for them to refuse
    • Respect their boundaries and/or limits
    • Show them that their body is perfect
    • Encourage them to talk about how they feel
    • Give them their comfort food if they are having a hard time eating
  • What to Avoid
    • Making them feel alone
    • Commenting on how much they eat
    • Telling them to eat more or less in a condescending manner
    • Forcing food upon them
    • Making comments about their body
    • Poking fun at their discomfort with food
    • Encouraging or discouraging their unhealthy weight loss or gain
